Blog - Campervan in Helsinki

Helsinki is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city, with a rich cultural heritage and plenty of exciting things to see and do. From its beautiful parks and gardens to its world-class museums and galleries, Helsinki has something for everyone. One of the great things about Helsinki is that it is very approachable with a campervan, compared to many other European capitals. The city has a well-developed infrastructure and public transportation network, and there are plenty of designated parking areas and Rastila Campsite for campervans located right next to the metro station.Having a campervan in Helsinki allows you to explore the city at your own pace and in your own way. In Finland, it is also legal to wild camp, even in the city, so you have the option to explore more remote areas and enjoy the beautiful nature.Rastila Camping is located close to the Rastila metro station, which is open around the year and offers a wide variety of services for campervan travellers. The camping area has reservable saunas, cottages, camper services, and playgrounds for kids. It is a convenient and affordable option for your stay in Helsinki. With a campervan, you also have the freedom to travel beyond the city and discover the beautiful surroundings of Helsinki. From the picturesque islands and beaches to the forests and lakes, Helsinki offers endless opportunities for outdoor adventures and relaxation. If you want to book our campervan, please send us a message. You can travel with our campervan in Helsinki, and anywhere in Finland.

Blog - Experience the Magic of Finland in Winter with a Campervan

Experience the beauty of Finland in the winter with our top tips for travelling with a campervan!1. Choose the right campervan. Not all campervans are suitable for winter travel, so make sure to choose one that is equipped with the necessary winterization equipment. This includes insulation, heating, and a reliable water system that can withstand freezing temperatures. At Caravan Helsinki, our campervan is specially designed for winter travel, with all the necessary equipment and features to keep you warm and comfortable.2. Plan your route carefully. Winter weather in Finland can be unpredictable, with snow, ice, and strong winds, so it's important to plan your route carefully. Check the weather forecast and road conditions before you set out, and avoid driving in adverse conditions if possible. It's also a good idea to have a backup plan in case you need to change your route or find shelter.3. Dress warmly and pack appropriately. Layering is key for staying warm outside of the campervan, so pack plenty of lightweight, warm, and moisture-wicking clothes. Don't forget to bring a hat, gloves, and warm socks, and wear waterproof and windproof outer layers. It's also a good idea to pack a first aid kit, emergency supplies, and a winter emergency kit in case you get stranded.4. Stay safe on the road. Winter driving requires extra care and attention, so make sure to drive slowly and carefully, and leave plenty of space between you and other vehicles. Our camper is equipped with winter tyres to help you avoid getting stuck.5. Enjoy the winter wonderland! Finland in the winter is a magical place, with sparkling snow, frozen lakes, and the Northern Lights. Take advantage of the winter activities, such as skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing, and enjoy the unique scenery and culture of Finland.Follow these tips and make the most of your winter campervan adventure in Finland!

Blog - One of our favorite destinations in Finland - Kalajoki

One of our favourite destinations is Kalajoki, located on the western coast of Finland. Kalajoki is known for its stunning beaches and sand dunes, and the vast area of Hiekkasärkät, or Kalajoki Sand Dunes, attracts nearly two million visitors every year. The largest dunes are over 20 meters high, and they offer endless opportunities for outdoor activities and relaxation. Kalajoki is also the place where Katri is from. The journey from Helsinki to Kalajoki takes about six hours, and it offers some beautiful scenery along the way. Stop along the way in Jyväskylä or Tampere (depending on the route) if you have time, as they are stunning places of their own.Why Kalajoki is our favourite?
In addition to the sand dunes (an attraction in itself), Kalajoki also has other attractions, such as the old town of Plassi, the self-governing islands of Kallankarit, and the unique Rahja Archipelago.
Kalajoki also has two campsites, one of which is located right on the sand dunes called Kalojoki Camping. We loved the campsite as it has access to the sea and a wide range of services, including restaurants, shops, and entertainment, that will keep you amused for weeks. We played golf at the stunning course with views of the sea, and we enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the restaurants, such as Sandy Kelt.Venetian festivities?
One of our favourite events in Finland is the Venetian festivities in Kalajoki. Held annually on the last weekend of August, the Venetians' festivities are a festival of water, fire, and life that promises a unique atmosphere and joyful events.
The highlight of the festivities is the huge fireworks display over Kalajoki Beach, which is one of the biggest in Finland. Visitors can marvel at the colourful and dazzling fireworks, and they can also enjoy the flickering lights of lanterns, candles, and other decorations along the coast. In addition to the fireworks display, we've enjoyed a wide range of additional activities and events, such as music concerts, dance performances, parades, and markets.

Our story

We love travelling, and experiencing new places, countries, foods, and cultures. We purchased the car as a long-awaited dream to see the best places in Finland and Europe comfortably with the camper. We've crisscrossed Finland around the year. Our favourites are the coast of Finland during the summer and Lapland during the winter season. We've also travelled further to Europe on few travels. Our favourite long-distance trip has been to Italy and Croatia.Since we can only travel for a few weeks a year, and it does not make sense to have the car sitting idle, we want to offer the possibility to others to experience traveling in this fun, free and exciting way.- Joona & Katri
